Getting started
Open Sapota once, tap the microphone, and say anything. It stops on its own when you stop talking, keeps what you said, and shows you what it heard. That is the whole thing. After two captures it will show you the ways to talk to it without opening it.
Ways to talk without opening the app
Back Tap (every iPhone)
- Open Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap.
- Choose Double Tap, then pick Sapota under Shortcuts. If it isn’t listed, the app’s Ways to Talk screen has a button that opens the right place.
- Tap the back of the phone twice. It starts listening, even from the Lock Screen.
Action Button (iPhone 15 Pro and later)
Settings → Action Button → Controls, then choose Sapota’s capture control. Hold to talk.
Control Centre and Lock Screen
Open Control Centre, tap the plus, and add the Sapota control. You can put the same control on your Lock Screen in place of the torch or camera.
Siri
Say “Hey Siri, talk to Sapota.” Nothing to set up. “Hey Siri, how am I doing in Sapota” reads back the week.
When Sapota reaches out
It might check in before a big day on your calendar, after a rough night, when something you mentioned has been and gone, or when you have gone quiet for a few days. It sends at most three prompts a week, none between 10pm and 8am, and if you ignore a kind of prompt four times it stops sending that kind for a month. Every kind can also be switched off in Settings.
Apple Health
Sapota asks to read Health only after you have used it for a while, and only reads sleep and heart signals to notice when you are run down. If you turn on logging, each capture’s feeling is written to Health as a State of Mind entry. Both can be changed any time in Settings, or in the Health app under Sharing → Apps.
Your words, out again
Settings → Export gives you everything as readable text grouped by day, or as a complete archive. Settings → Delete everything does exactly that, and cannot be undone.
Bring to Session
Open the moon‑and‑stars button, choose Bring to Session, pick a range of weeks, and tick the moments you want on the page. Sapota builds a one‑page PDF with your own words for the bridge to the session. You can add a password, preview it behind Face ID, read it in the room, or share it.
Troubleshooting
“Sapota can’t transcribe on this device”
Sapota only transcribes on the phone, never on a server. A few configurations don’t offer on‑device speech for a given language. Try changing the Siri language in Settings, or use the keyboard instead.
Reflections say the week is still being read
On phones with Apple Intelligence the weekly reflection uses the on‑device model, which can take a few seconds. If it takes longer than about twelve seconds Sapota falls back to the plain version. If it stays stuck, close and reopen the app.
Capturing from the Lock Screen doesn’t start
Check that Sapota has microphone permission and that Control Centre is allowed on the Lock Screen (Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Control Centre). Back Tap and the Action Button both need the shortcut or control to be assigned once.
Do I need Apple Intelligence?
No. Every feature has a plain path underneath that works on every iPhone running iOS 26. Apple Intelligence, on iPhone 15 Pro and later, adds richer wording to reflections and insights.
If you are in crisis
Sapota is not a substitute for professional care. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. In the US and Canada, call or text 988. In the UK and Ireland, call 116 123. Elsewhere, findahelpline.com lists services in over 130 countries.
